River Monitoring Initiative
Linked to a 30-year river fly fishing obsession for wild brown trout, as well as environmental volunteering with Canal & River Trust, Ian carries out invertebrate sampling for the Riverfly Partnership, a monitoring initiative that is hosted by the Freshwater Biological Association (FBA). Data is collected monthly on the River Wharfe at Buckden in the Dales. This data is compiled into a blog for the Bradford City Anglers club who have beats on the river.
The Anglers’ Riverfly Partnership established in 2007 works with anglers and conservation volunteers from more than 100 partner organisations to carry out regular freshwater invertebrate surveys to check for severe changes in water quality. Host FBA works on behalf of the Partners as part of the FBAs active engagement in the management and conservation of the aquatic environment.
