Description: Working in a joint venture as the lead Project Design Director for Sri Lankan developers Airport Express Air & Rail Company Pvt Ltd (company name since changed to High Speed Railway Corporation Pvt Ltd).  Atoll worked with HSRC to prepare an outline feasibility and business plan for two private 150 acre garden city / new towns or ‘Integrated Urban Townships’ at Bopitiya and Kerawalapitiya in Sri Lanka. Both projects were speculative and linked to HSRC’s equally speculative new high speed Maglev train propsed between Katunanayake airport and capital Colombo. Design architects directly engaged by Atoll as key collaborators were Altrincham-based Calder Peel FGP. The total project costs for the mixed developments (excluding the high speed rail link element) was anticipated to be in the region of $USD 700 million. For their part, Calder Peel worked in partnership with Atoll to develop a masterplan feasibility for just the Bopitiya township for HSRC to begin with. This initial feasibility created in April 2015 can be viewed below. The project was sadly unrealised.
