Ian Banks registered as a Member of the Association of Consultant Architects (ACA) in August 2018, and by default undertakes to abide morally and ethically with their own related but separate Mission Statement. Previous to this, since 1990, he has been mandatorily registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) as part of the Architects Act 1997. He was also a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of Architects (RIBA) from 1990 to 2024 before letting that entirely optional chartered membership lapse from January 2025.
Association of Consultant Architects: The ACA is the national professional body representing architects in private practice – consultant architects – in the UK. Membership is open to Registered Architects practicing on their own account either alone or in partnership or as a Director of a company whose business consists wholly or mainly of an Architects’ practice or an allied field. The principal aims of the ACA are:
- To encourage excellence in the quality of service that our members provide
- To vigorously represent the aims and interests of architects in private practice on issues relating to the practice of architecture.
Note that the ACA is not a regulatory body, but provides an independent voice for and support to architectural practices that promotes and enables high standards in practice within the membership.
