Ian Banks acted as public art consultant and curator for Cheshire County Council in run-up to creation of the new Unitary Authorities of Cheshire East and Cheshire West & Chester. Ian explored the strategic public art strategy opportunities for both new authorities linked to a Cheshire Spaces public realm commissioning programme. Part of this involved curating micro art commissions, such as this work in progress of action-led research by media artist Jen Sothern. The work involved interviews and ethnographic observations with both walkers and pilots, and “exploring practices of navigation in relation to gps technologies, cloud, water and reflection”. Groups engaged included Mid Cheshire Footpath Society, East Cheshire Ramblers and Flintshire Flying School at Hawarden, Cheshire.
