Ian Banks is now a signed-up Friend Member under the NYC Public Art Fund Friendship scheme. Ian’s first introduction to the important work of Public Art Fund came in September 2000 as part of a 1-week detailed public art study tour to New York that included meeting their (then) Director Tom Eccles. The visit was undertaken whilst working for Arts Council England North West as their (then new) Public Art & Architecture Officer. This mid-career experience, and introduction to the curatorial work of organisations like PAF and Creative Time proved to be an epiphany-moment in influencing the beginnings of Ian’s parallel career working in public art.
