Ian Banks was a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of Architects (RIBA) from January 1990 to December 2024. From January 2025 however, Ian has elected to let his optional RIBA chartered status lapse and concentrate instead on maintaining his links to the statutory Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Membership of the alternative Association of Consultant Architects (ACA).

Ian remains of course obliged to undertake and abide morally and ethically with the ARB code of conduct for all practicing architects – as of course he remains mandatorily registered with ARB under the Architects Act 1997.
